College Baseball is Here! Looking at the Season Ahead of Us
The nation’s top collegiate baseball players took the field for the first time this season during the past few days, meaning college baseball is back! With some of the top prospects in the game going head to head representing their schools, college baseball is amazing. Today, we are going to take a look at the 2025 college baseball season ahead of us.
The Top Teams
Texas A&M Aggies (1)
Texas A&M University has been home to a very talented baseball team for many years now, and they are considered to have one of the top baseball programs in the nation. This Aggies team features many superstars, including 3 Golden Spikes Award preseason watch list members— OF/3B Gavin Grahovac, OF Jace LaViolette, & LHP Ryan Prager. The Aggies, who finished 2024 ranked as the #2 team in the nation enter the season as the #1 team in the country and the favorites to win the Men’s College World Series.
Virginia Cavaliers (2)
UVA has had very talented teams over the past few years, making the national tournament last year, which is equivalent to the playoffs. Led by 1B Henry Ford, OF Harrison Didawick, & LHP Evan Blanco, the Cavaliers entered the season as the #2 team in the nation after finishing 2024 as the #7 team in the country. However, this club hasn’t won the National Championship since 2015, and ten years later, this year could be the year the Virginia Cavaliers are back on top.

Louisiana State Tigers (3)
There are multiple members of the 2023 Men’s College World Series Champion LSU Tigers team currently in the MLB, including 2024 NL ROY Paul Skenes & rookie Dylan Crews. With many players drafted from that team, the Tigers are now looking to bring another championship home to Baton Rouge under stars in 1B Jared Jones, 2B Daniel Dickinson, & RP Connor Ware. This Tigers team that wasn't ranked at the end of 2024 is now ranked the #3 team in the nation and looks to get back to the Men's College World Series.
Top Prospects
Some of the biggest superstars in the MLB right now played college baseball in the last, and this time for development is a big reason why they play as well as they do. Some of these players include Boston’s 3B/2B Alex Bregman (LSU; 2013-15), Pittsburgh’s SP Paul Skenes (Air Force; 2021-22, LSU; 2023), and Philly’s 1B Bryce Harper (Southern Nevada; 2010). So, let’s look at some future MLB stars who will play college baseball this season.
Jace LaViolette | OF | TA&M
Texas A&M’s superstar outfielder has a bright future ahead of him, being one of the best amateur baseball players in the country. As a member of the Aggies, Jace LaViolette has a very good chance of winning the Men’s College World Series and being drafted this summer. In 2024 as a sophomore, LaViolette hit .305/.449/.726 with 29 homeruns & 78 RBIs— leading to him being selected to the 2024 All-SEC Team & being on the preseason Golden Spikes Award watchlist for the upcoming season. According to MLB.com, LaViolette is the #2 Prospect for the 2025 MLB Draft.
Jamie Arnold | LHP | FSU
Following Jace LaViolette on MLB.com’s Draft Prospects List is Florida State’s Jamie Arnold. The southpaw from Florida went 11-3 with a 2.98 ERA & 159 strikeouts in 105.2 innings as a sophomore. In 2024, Arnold was selected to the All-American First Team and was a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award & the College Baseball Foundations Pitcher of the Year Award. As mentioned before, Arnold is ranked as the #3 prospect for the 2025 MLB Draft by MLB.com, giving him a very high chance of being picked in the first round this summer as long as he meets expectations.
Tyler Bremner | RHP | UCSB
Yet another top prospect in college baseball is right-handed flamethrower Tyler Bremmer for the University of California Santa Barbara Guachos. As a sophomore in 2024, Bremmer had a record of 11-1, posting a 2.54 ERA with 104 striekouts in 88.2 innings. This season, Bremmer is a junior and could very well be on his way to Major League Baseball, being ranked as the 4th best prospect for the 2025 MLB Draft by MLB.com.
