Cody Bellinger was said to be the 2nd best Free Agent going into the 2023-2024 MLB off-season falling behind only to Shohei Ohtani.
Many teams were linked to the 2017 NL Rookie of the Year. Most notably, Bellinger was linked to the Philadelphia Phillies, San Francisco Giants, New York Yankees, and the team he spent the 2023 MLB season with, the Chicago Cubs. However, it was very unclear who Bellinger who sign with as he remained a free agent as Spring Training begon on Thursday, February 22, 2024.
On Saturday, February 24, 2024, Bellinger re-signed with the 3x World Series Champion Chicago Cubs. Bellinger and Chicago agreed on a 3-year, $80 Million deal that includes a player opt-out in each of Belli’s first two seasons of the new contract.
This is great news for the Cubs as Bellinger will most likely spend sometime in center field & right field, as well as spend some time at first base. Bellinger's resumé included the 2017 NL Rookie of the Year, 2018 NLCS MVP, 2019 MVP, two Silver Slugger Awards (2019, 2023), one Gold Glove Award (2019), the 2023 NL Comeback Player of the Year Award, & he is a 2020 World Series Champion.
2019 Cody B is coming back, I'm calling it
