In 2023, the Chicago White Sox went 61-101 and were one of the worst teams in Major League Baseball. The Southside White Sox’s biggest problem seemed to be lack of talent. However, former White Sox pitcher, Dylan Cease all but lacks talent.
On March 13, 2024, the San Diego Padres and Chicago White Sox completed a trade that would effect the future of both teams. In the trade, the Padres would receive RHP Dylan Cease while the White Sox would receive RHP Drew Thorpe, RHP Jairo Iriarte, RHP Steven Wilson, & OF Samuel Zavala from San Diego. Thorpe is the No. 64 ranked prospect in Major League Baseball according to ESPN while the other players received in the trade are yet to be found on the Top 100 Prospects List.
As mentioned before, Dylan Cease all but lacks talent on the mound. In 2023, Cease went 7-9 with a 4.58 ERA throughout 33 games and 177.0 innings. Although these stats do not look very good to the eye, remember, Cease was with the 3rd worst team in baseball according to Bleacher Report. Throughout his 6-year MLB career, Cease has posted a 3.83 ERA while having 43 wins and 35 losses with the Chicago White Sox.
San Diego is a team that consists of some really good players including, Manny Machado, Fernando Tatis Jr., and Xander Bogaerts. The Padres made the playoffs in 2022, defeating the New York Mets in the wild card round, the LA Dodgers in the NLDS, and then loosing to the Philadelphia Phillies in the NLCS. Although San Diego did not make the playoffs in 2023, the Friars could be headed towards the right path for another postseason appearance in 2024, adding Dylan Cease in a trade with the Chicago White Sox.
