Cubs Release New Alternate Uniform
Cubs Unveil New Uniform, Retire City Connect Uniforms
The Chicago Cubs unveiled a new uniform for the 2025 season as apart of their annual Cubs Convention, a tribute to the City of Chicago & the Cubs’ franchise history. Although this is not a City Connect uniform, it has many hidden details which makes it very similar to most City Connect uniforms throughout the league, making it one of the more detailed uniforms in the league right now.
The Cubs, one of the oldest active teams in Major League Baseball, first wore baby blue jerseys in 1941, being the first modern MLB team to do so. Throughout the 1970s & ‘80s, Chicago donned these colors on and off. In 2014, the Cubs brought back the baby blues as a throwback uniform in honor of the 100th Anniversary for Wrigley Field. Now, Chicago will wear baby blue uniforms yet again, this time representing the history of Chicago, it’s culture, and of course, one of it’s coveted sports franchises.
Looking At The “Blues Alternate Uniform”
Chicago’s new uniform, which pays tribute to the past and present features a baby blue jersey, with white pants, & a multi-colored hat. On the front of the jersey, is a brand new logo, which is based on past Cubs’ logos and music instrument brand logos, also featuring the Chicago star. Throughout the jersey, the fonts are inspired by the Blue’s era, which was big in Chicago. On the sleeve of the jersey is another new logo, this one in the shape of a guitar pick, with “Chicago” spelt inside. Within the words are a lightning bolt, representing Chicago’s electric blues and a 6-sided Chicago star, which is found on the Chicago flag.
The hat features the exact same as on the front of the jersey, with a white front panel and a royal blue back/bill. On the other hand, the socks that go with this uniform will be baby blue, like the jersey. The socks will also features 6 lines, which are supposed to look like guitar strings. In the middle of the sock, it says “Sweet Home Chicago”— an iconic song from the Blues Era. Although the pants haven’t been clearly shown in the release, they appear to be white with blue stripes on the side.
This uniform will replace the Cubs’ “Wrigleyville” City Connect uniform, as Nike only allows teams to have 5 uniforms. Even though this uniform is not considered a City Connect, it connects the city’s history and culture with the Cubs’ franchise history, seeming to be very similar to a City Connect uniform.
Overall, these are amazing uniforms, connecting the city and the team while providing a clean, throwback look. Now, fans across baseball will get to see one of Major League Baseball’s most historic teams don the powder blues yet again.
