Dodgers Add 2x Cy-Young Winner From Rival Giants
Blake Snell Signs With the Los Angeles Dodgers
When Walker Buehler struck out Alex Verdugo on Oct. 30, the Los Angeles Dodgers were crowned World Series champions and Blake Snell became eligible to become a free agent. Now, Snell looks to become a World Series champion himself as he joins the Dodgers.
Snell & the Dodgers recently agreed to a 5-year, $182 million deal, pending a physical. This is a massive contract, which ranks 3rd in league history for a LHP. Snell will receive a massive $52 million signing bonus if he can pass his physical and sign with the team.
Snell had a decent season with the Giants this past year, going 5-3 with a 3.12 ERA & a 1.05 WHIP in 20 games for a total of 104 innings. However, after a poor start to the season, Snell reached his peak for 2024 on August 2nd when he threw his 1st career no-hitter— the 18th in Giants franchise history against the Cincinnati Reds.
The Dodgers have shown interest in Snell before, as they looked at signing him last offseason before he signed a deal with the San Francisco Giants. In addition, some reports say that L.A. showed interest in trading for him this past July.
Going into this offseason, the Dodgers wanted another ace in their rotation. Now, the Dodgers have Snell as a part of their pitching staff. With this addition, the Dodgers have arguably the best starting rotation in the league with Tyler Glasnow, Blake Snell, Shohei Ohtani, & Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Although they do have some other options, like Dustin May, Emmet Sheehan, or Gavin Stone, the Dodgers might try to sign another pitcher, possibly Roki Sasaki or Corbin Burnes. Snell is also helping the Dodgers with this by deferring $62 million of his contract.
This addition of Blake Snell is a big one for the defending World Series champions Los Angeles Dodgers as they look to go back-to-back. Unfortunately, we have to wait until next year to see how big this contract actually turns out to be.
