The winner of the 2024 Ted Williams MLB All-Star Game Most Valuable Player Award, Jarren Duran, an outfielder for the Boston Red Sox recently returned from his suspension.
Duran was suspended on Monday by the Boston Red Sox after the NESN broadcast of Sunday night’s game against the Houston Astros captured Duran responding to a fan heckling him. While Duran was at-bat in the bottom of the sixth inning, a fan sitting behind was heckling him; as a result, Duran turned around and had a few words with the fan, one of them being a homophobic slur.
Duran received a 2 game suspension from the Red Sox & was forced to sit during Monday & Tuesday’s games against the Texas Rangers. According to the Red Sox, Duran was not paid during the time period & his salary for the two days was donated to charity.
In his return on Wednesday, Duran went 1-5 with a single & 2 strikeouts in Boston’s 9-7 loss in 10 innings to wrap up their series against the reigning World Series Champion Texas Rangers at Fenway Park.
Jarren Duran, who is having his breakout season this year, could be ruining his reputation throughout the league. With his recent suspension & his incident with the words on his shirt he was wearing during his interview after winning All-Star Game MVP, fans could easily loose respect for Duran even though the words on his shirt had a meaning behind it & he apologized to everyone for his recent actions.
