Many Stars Still Free Agents
Spring Training has Started & Many Stars Don't Have a Job
The 2024 MLB Season has begon with Spring Training officially starting on Thursday, February 22, 2024. Many of the biggest free agents such as Shohei Ohtani (LAA to LAD), Sonny Gray (MIN to STL), & Whit Merrifield (TOR to PHI) have signed with a new team for the 2024 MLB season. Additionally, many international players have signed with their new team in the United States including Yoshinobo Yamamoto. Who went from the Nippon Professional Baseball League in Japan to joining fellow Japanese star, Shohei Ohtani in Los Angeles with the Dodgers. Another big signing from the Korean Baseball Organization is Jung Hoo Lee who signed with the San Francisco Giants.
Although there were many big signings and trades this MLB off-season, there are still a few stars without a job as we enter Spring Training. Most notably, Cody Bellinger still hasn't been signed by any team. Going into the off-season, Bellinger was considered by many to be the second best free agent, falling behind only to Shohei Ohtani. The two biggest pitchers in the 2023-2024 MLB Free Agent class also have yet to be signed, 2023 NL Cy Young winner, Blake Snell & 2023 World Series Champion, Jordan Montgomery.
Two teams have been in the mix of signing every one of the listed players, the Philadelphia Phillies and the San Francisco Giants. Both teams have truly only made two big signing this off-season. The Phillies re-signed Aaron Nola & signed Whit Merrifield from Toronto while the Giants signed Jung Hoo Lee from Korea & Jorge Soler from the Miami Marlins. However, there are many teams that have been linked to the players. Below are the players and the teams they have been linked to.
Cody Bellinger: Cubs, Phillies, Yankees, Giants, Blue Jays
Jordan Montgomery: Rangers, Yankees, Giants, Red Sox, Phillies
Blake Snell: Yankees, Phillies, Angels
Blake snell wants way too much, nobody is paying him that for him to regress
