Motor City Unveils City Connect Uniforms
"We got Next" | Detroit Tigers Release City Connect Uniforms
On May 6, 2024, the Detroit Tigers became the 24th team in Major League Baseball to unveil a Nike City Connect uniform. Detroit joined the Philadelphia Phillies, New York Mets, & Tampa Bay Rays on the list of teams that have unveiled a City Connect uniform in 2024.
MLB.com states that, “The Nike MLB City Connect Series celebrates the deep-rooted history, culture and spirit of each city that continues to bring the clubs and their communities together.” Detroit, a busy city with a lot of passion & a ton of history, certainly deserves a City Connect uniform.
Similar to other City Connect Uniforms, Detroit’s City Connects have hidden meanings & special features that connect to Motor City & the team’s history.
“Motor City” Wordmark as a nod to Detroit’s automotive history & nickname
Tire Marks in the middle of the jersey
Tiger alternate logo with white around eyes to represent car headlights
Racing strips around jersey cuffs
Sleeve Patch representing the M-1 signs in Detroit with 3’s stitched on both sides of the 1 to show Detroit’s area code, 313
DET190135456884 on the side of the hat to represent a car’s vin number combining DET for Detroit, 1901 (first year the Tigers played), & each year Detroit won a World Series, 1935, 1945, 1968, & 1984.
The jersey is…fine. Not the best but not the worst. But oh man, the hat. The old English D is one of the most iconic hats, and instead we get something that just says “Detroit.” The 313 patch from the jerseys would have been better on the front of the hat.
The jersey for me was love at first sight
