Nike recently introduced new MLB jerseys during the 2023 All-Star Break & these jerseys are planned to be used during the 2024 MLB Season and beyond.
The new Nike Vapor Premier jerseys are made to improve the player’s mobility and absorb sweat. When these new jerseys were introduced for the 2023 MLB All-Star Game last year in Seattle, Nike receive very positive reviews from the players who got the opportunity to play in the ASG and help test the new uniforms for Nike. However, with Spring Training starting soon, the reviews haven’t been the same whatsoever.
Phillies star shortstop Trea Turner recently said in an interview when asked about the new uniforms, “everyone hates them.” Other players that do not like the new jerseys are Dane Dunning, Miles Mikolas, Taylor Ward, & an unknown Orioles player. Some complaints heard from player are that they look “cheap”, look like replica jerseys, don’t fit, & an unknown Orioles players said that they are “Like a knockoff jersey from T.J. Maxx.”
One of the biggest complaints is the new jersey template Nike has introduced that moves the MLB logo below the collar and the significantly smaller name plates & numbers of the jerseys. This has caused most of the comments saying they look “cheap.”
According to many sources, various MLB players are sending their complaints to the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) and MLBPA President Tony Clark recently said that they are trying to get the uniforms changed before Opening Day on Thursday, March 28, 2024.
My Thoughts: I really like the idea of the new material as my baseball team has uniforms with a similar material & I really like it. However, my biggest issue is how the uniforms look with the new template. I agree with most of the players and think the look very cheap, almost like a replica jersey.
Even with all the complaints, Nike still may not change the jerseys and let’s just hope it doesn’t escalate to bigger problems.
I'm not buying any of these, they are trash
