Pitchers and catchers report for all 30 teams this week! This means that we only have a few more weekly recaps before the offseason is over. Today, we are going to be looking at the few things that happened during this past week of the 2024-2025 MLB offseason.
Free Agent Signings
Yankees Reunite With Reliever
Veteran LHP Tim Hill is headed back to the American League Champion New York Yankees on a 1-year, $2.5 million deal. The deal includes an option for 2026 that is worth $3 million. Hill went 4-0 with a 3.36 ERA in 67 innings with 31 strikeouts in the 2024 regular season while posting a 1.08 ERA in the playoffs. Hill rejoins the Yankees’ bullpen which features Luke Weaver, Mark Leiter Jr., Jake Cousins, Devin Williams, & more.
Twins Add Veteran Outfielder
The Minnesota Twins hadn’t made any notable moves this offseason until this past week, signing veteran OF Harrison Bader to a 1-year, $6.25 million deal with up to $2M in bonuses. Bader, who was a part of a playoff team in the New York Mets last year, hit .236/.284/.373 with 12 homeruns, 51 RBIs, and a total of 95 hits in 2024.
Tigers Bring Back Starter
At the 2024 trade deadline, the Detroit Tigers traded RHP Jack Flaherty to the Los Angeles Dodgers. While with L.A., Flaharty helped the Dodgers win the 2024 World Series, raising his free agent looks significantly. After the playoffs, Flaherty became a free agent, and is now returning to Mo-Town on a 2-year, $35 million deal that includes a player option for 2026. Flaherty posted a 3.17 ERA with 194 strikeouts while going 13-7 in the 2024 regular season. Flaherty joins Tarik Skubal, Reese Olson, Casey Mize, & other players in the Tigers’ rotation.
Trades
Cubs Acquire All-Star Reliever | CHC - LAD Trade
The defending World Series Champion Los Angeles Dodgers recently made yet another move this offseason, yet L.A. surprisingly did not receive a superstar in the move. In a recent trade between the Los Angeles Dodgers & the Chicago Cubs, the Dodgers traded recently DFA’d RP Ryan Brasier for a player to be later named/cash considerations. The veteran right-hander in Brasier had a record of 1-0 with a 3.54 ERA in 29 games with 25 strikeouts in 2024.
Nice!
