Week 8 of the 2024 MLB Offseason has come to a close & a couple of moves were made.Today, we are going to be looking at everything that has happened during this week of the 2024 MLB offseason.
Free Agent Signings
Detroit Add AL-Champ To Infield
One of their first big moves of the offseason, the Detroit Tigers signed 2B Gleyber Torres to a 1-year, $15 million deal to replace Colt Kieth at second base, as the Tigers also announced that he has been moved to first base. The former Yankee in Torres hit .257/.330/.378 with 15 homeruns, 63 RBIs, & 41 XBH in 2024. Gleyber adds playoff experience as well as a veteran presence to this young playoff team in Detroit.
** Corbin Burnes Signs With NL West Contender **
After Juan Soto signed with the New York Mets, heads were quickly turned to RHP Corbin Burnes, arguably the top free agent left on the market. Over the next few weeks, we had several rumors of teams interested in Burnes, including the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francsico Giants, & the Arizona Diamondbacks. After nearly 2 months in free agency, Burnes signed a 6-year, $210 million contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Burnes had a record of 15-9 with a 2.92 ERA in 32 starts for the Orioles in 2024. A great start to the season also gave Burnes the starting role for the American League in the 2024 All-Star Game. Arizona’s new ace with join a rotation with Zac Gallen, Jordan Montgomery, Brandon Pfaadt, Eduardo Rodriguez, & Merrill Kelly.
