On December 9, 2019, Zack Wheeler signed a 5-year, $118 Million deal with the Philadelphia Phillies that would have Wheeler in Philly until the end of the 2024 MLB season. In Spring Training 2023, the Phillies tried to work out a contract extension for Wheeler but it never happened. However, Dave Dombrowski and the Phillies got the job done during the 2024 Spring Training. According to MLB.com, on March 4, 2024, Wheeler signed a 3-year, $126M extension to keep Wheeler in the City of Brotherly Love through 2027.
Over his career, Wheeler has posted a 3.45 ERA over 1378.2 innings within 227 career regular season games. Wheeler also has a career 1.19 WHIP. Zack Wheeler will most likely start on Opening Day 2024 against the Braves at Citizens Bank Park. With this massive extension, Wheeler should be at the peak of the Phillies rotation for years to come.
