The Washington Nationals Have a Great Future, But Why?
Dylan Crews Makes His MLB Debut; Collects First Hit & Homer a Few Days Later
On Monday, Aug. 26th, the Washington Nationals’ top prospect & #3 prospect in all of baseball, Dylan Crews made his Major League Debut. Crews was drafted 2nd overall in the 2023 MLB Draft after having a tremendous year with the Louisiana State University Tigers where he won the Golden Spikes Award, which is presented to the best amateur player in the United States annually, along with becoming a National Champion when LSU defeated the Florida Gators in the MCWS.
Before being called up, Crews hit .275/.351/.806 in 135 games with 18 home runs, 97 RBIs, & 29 stolen bases in the Nationals farm system with Single-A Fredericksburg, Double-A Harrisburg, & Triple-A Rochester. Crews was playing with AAA Rochester Red Wings when outfielder Alex Call was placed on the IL, giving him his first opportunity in the big leagues.
Crews, who made his MLB Debut on Monday, went 0-3 with a walk in his first career game in the big leagues. However, on Tuesday night, Crews got his first career hit off of former Cy Young Award winner, Gerrit Cole & went 2-4 with a run scored. Hitting in the leadoff spot on Wednesday, Crews hit a leadoff homerun as his first career homer & collected 2 hits with 2 RBIs & 1 run scored in 4 at bats.
In his first three games in the major leagues, Dylan Crews has shown a lot of potential. Now, what type of potential do the Washington Nationals have? The Nationals are a very young team with a core consisting of CJ Abrams, MacKenzie Gore, Dylan Crews, Jacob Young & James Wood. On Wednesday night, Crews, & Young went a combined 6 for 11 with 4 runs scored & 3 RBIs. Additionally, Gore earned the win after going 6 innings, allowing 2 runs, & striking out 6 batters against the best team in the American League, the New York Yankees.
After Dylan Crews made his MLB Debut & collected his first career hit + first career homerun across his first 3 games, James Wood, Jacob Young, & MacZenzie Gore shined in D.C., the Washington Nationals seem to have a bright future.
