Kevin Pillar & Kevin Kiermaier to Retire After This Season
Two 10+ year veterans have recently announced their plans to retire at the end of the 2024 MLB season. Both former members of the Toronto Blue Jays, Kevin Pillar & Kevin Kiermaier have both recently announced that the 2024 MLB season will be their last.
Kevin Pillar Career Recap
Pillar, who was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 32nd Round, 979th Overall broke into the big leagues on August 14, 2013 with Toronto. Pillar would play for the Blue Jays for 6 more seasons until he was traded to the San Francisco Giants in 2019. After the 2019 season, Pillar would sign with the Boston Red Sox before being traded mid-season to go play in the Mile High City with the Colorado Rockies. The following season Pillar would play for yet another team, the New York Mets. 2022 was not a good year for Kevin Pillar, who only played 4 games with the Los Angeles Dodgers as a result of a fractured shoulder. 2023 went better for Pillar as a member of the Atlanta Braves. Pillar later signed a minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox in the off-season before being picked up off waiver by the Los Angeles Angels. Through his 11 Major League seasons, Pillar hit .258/.295/.706 while playing mainly center field.
Kevin Kiermaier Career Recap'
Kiermaier who has spent his whole 12-year career with the Tampa Bay Rays & Toronto Blue Jays was drafted in the 31st round with the 941st overall pick in the 2010 MLB Draft. Kiermaier would play for Tampa Bay for the majority of his career until 2023 when he joined the Toronto Blue Jays. In the 2023-2024 MLB off-season, Kiermaier signed a one-year deal with the Jays that will carry him to the end of his career. Career, Kiermaier hit .246/.306/.709 along with winning 4 Gold Glove Awards & the 2015 AL Platinum Glove Award.
With Kevin Pillar & Kevin Kiermaier both retiring at the end of the 2024 MLB season, Major League Baseball will be losing two stars of this decade.
