Votto Back Where It All Started
Joey Votto Signs With His Hometown Team, Toronto Blue Jays
Joey Votto had spent his whole career with the Cincinnati Reds since he had originally been drafted by them in 2002. Going into Free Agency, there was no team that it seemed obvious would sign Votto- if any at all. Votto, 40, with his Hall of Fame worthy career, there was a chance Votto would retire. Going into Spring Training, Votto was still unemployed in the MLB and seemed to be going crazy. Following the start of Spring Training, Votto seemed to be going crazy ,posting a video on social media saying if he didn’t get signed, he would not put his grocery carts back.
However, Votto can put his shopping carts back now as on Mar. 8, 2024, Joey Votto signed a minor league deal with his hometown team, the Toronto Blue Jays.
Toronto already has a star first baseman, Vladimir Guerrero Jr.,, who was an All-Star in 2023 but Guerrero’s defense isn’t very good and so Votto and Guerrero could switch time between first and DH for 2024. On Mar. 9, 2024, Joey Votto showed up at Blue Jays Spring Training Camp in Dunedin, Florida. Whether or not Votto will choose to retire after 2024 is unknown, however, for now, Votto will start a new chapter in his baseball career with his hometown team in Toronto, Ontario.
