Where Will Crochet be Traded?
Discussing Where Garrett Crochet Will Be Traded This Offseason
The 2024 Chicago White Sox were the worst team in Major League Baseball History. In the midst of a huge rebuild, it is almost definite that the Chi-Sox will trade their ace, Garrett Crochet during this offseason. Crochet had a Cy-Young caliber season of 2024, when he went 6-12 with a 3.58 ERA & a 1.07 WHIP in a 146.0 IP. Although we basically know that he is going to be traded, the real question is where he will be dealt & who will be sent to the southside of Chicago.
Philadelphia Phillies
One of the best teams in baseball, the Phillies have seemed very interested in Crochet. This interest goes back to July when the Phillies tried to trade for Crochet. The only problem was that the White Sox wanted Andrew Painter, who was the Phillies #1 Prospect at the time to be included in the trade. Due to his amazing potential, the Phillies declined & did not acquire Crochet. However, now that we are in the offseason, the Phillies & White Sox have been talking about a trade. Two players that have been discussed in the trade have been All-Star 3B Alec Bohm & OF Justin Crawford (PHI #3 Prospect). If Crochet was traded to the Phillies, he would join a rotation with Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, Christopher Sanchez, & Ranger Suarez.
New York Mets
The Mets, a team that made it all the way to the NLCS in the playoffs this year & is going all-out this offseason is another contender for Crochet. Although not a lot of news has been released on the Mets’ talking to the White Sox on a trade, some players the Mets could trade away include SS Luisangel Acuna, SS/OF Jett Williams (NYM #2 Prospect), & OF Drew Gilbert (NYM #3 Prospect). Crochet would join Kodai Senga, Paul Blackburn, & David Peterson in the Mets’ rotation if he was acquired.
Boston Red Sox
Yet another team that has been interested in Garrett Crochet is the Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox had a poor season in 2024, finishing 3rd in the AL East. However, Boston is planning on being aggressive this offseason & could be a contender next season. Some players that could be sent to the Windy City include 1B Tristan Casas, OF Wilyer Abreu, OF Connor Wong, & SS Franklin Arias (BOS #6 Prospect). If Crochet gets dealt to New England, he would be joining a Red Sox starting pitcher rotation that features Lucas Giolito, Tanner Houck, Kutter Crawford, Brayan Bello, & Garrett Whitlock.
Prediction
Garrett Crochet Joins The Philadelphia Phillies Via Trade
PHI Gets: LHP Garrett Crochet
CWS Get: 3B Alec Bohm, RHP Mick Abel (PHI #6 Prospect), SS Bryan Rincon (PHI #10 Prospect)
Out of all the teams, the Phillies have been the team that has shown the most interest in Crochet. In addition, the Phillies have a pretty good farm system that allows them to send over 2 of their Top 10 prospects in this trade.
Alec Bohm is being traded because of his late-season collapse & poor performance in the playoffs along with his immaturity. The Phillies might send Abel over because of his recent command issues and their relatively strong pitching staff & prospects. Abel is still ranked #6 in the Phillies farm system, which will cause the White Sox to be interested in acquiring him. The final part of this trade proposal is SS Bryan Rincon, who is ranked as the Phils’ 10th best prospect. Although Rincon is another top prospect, the Phillies have SS Trea Turner signed under contract until 2033, have INF Aidan Miller (PHI #1 Prospect), who’s primary position is shortstop & SS Starlyn Caba (PHI #4 Prospect). With this, Philly is most likely going to have an extremely talented player at shortstop for many years to come & Rincon will not be much use to them.
