Doesn't really make sense to me, at least. Let me share my thoughts.
JD Martinez may be old, but he's not retiring anytime soon. Eventually, someone's going to pick him up. The Yankees are probably going to pick him up after the Stanton news. At least, they should. He'll be waiting in free agency another season, though, if no one picks him up.
Rizzo is 35, but once again, the Yankees are kind of in desperation without it, and according to a lot of reports, a reunion is coming. A Cubs return is also likely. He's not retiring until next year if he doesn't get picked up.
Whit Merrifield seems about right. He's already on the podcast route, so he'll be gone soon.
I disagree. These players have played over 10 years in the league and have not been as productive as they used to be. All 3 of them were in the playoffs last year, which would mean they would end on a good note. If nobody picks them up, they would have to go overseas to play, and most of them would not want to end their careers like that. Nobody would have thought that Kevin Kermaier would have retired after this year if he hadn't announced it before. This is the same thing. Not to mention that all of these players have a family and many players have hung up the cleats at lot earlier than expected because they know they have an opportunity outside of playing and they want to spend time with their loved ones. Don't be surprised if any of these players end up retiring.
Look, everyone has families, but there's one thing in common with all these guys, they love playing ball. There's a reason they're in the MLB. If they had one more shot at playing, they would accept it. There are a lot of teams that need these guys. Actually, the Yankees need both JD and Rizzo. Just because they made the playoffs, doesn't mean they're all done. No one wants to just go to the playoffs. When they're there, they want to win.
I won't be surprised if any of them retire, though, but I'm just saying that there is a high chance they won't retire.
First of all, I'm not saying they will retire, I'm saying they could retire if nobody picks them up. If you read the title and my writing, it's obvious that my point is that if they aren't signed, they could retire-- which is part of why I named a few teams that could sign the players, such as the Yankees for Martinez as I mentioned.

Whit is gone. That's for sure.

Isn't that what I said 😂. All good.
Anyway, anything can change before the regular season starts. We've already seen terrible injuries. I'm betting we'll see more.
I was just kinda confused because you started with basically what I was saying 😂.
I guess only time will tell!
Great read!
Appreciate it!
